This is the patch that Battlefield fans have been waiting for!

Here is a brief overview of the improvements:

Updated commo rose

Squad leaders rejoice! Move and attack commands have been added to the commo rose. Your squad mates will no longer think you an idiot for accidentally giving an attack order that was meant to be an enemy spot.

Commo rose options will change according to the player's whereabouts ingame. For example, a player on foot would have different menu options than someone in a tank or jet.

Improved mini-map

Players will be able to toggle between different levels of mini-map detail with the B key (customizable in controls).

Beep! Beep! Ima jeep!

Press the space bar while in a jeep to lay on the horn.

DICE has decided to give new players a fighting chance in air vehicles. Everyone will start with IR flares from the moment they first enter a jet or chopper.

Chopper pilots will now receive 50 points every time one of their passengers kills an enemy.

Unmanned SOFLAMs will now earn points for the recon player that deployed it.

For a full list of weapon and vehicle tweaks, see this Battlelog news post.

Rollout will begin at 9AM GMT at which time, Battlelog will be unavailable.

Battlefield 3: End Game
Will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

Release date: Anticipated December 2012

On a completely separate note, to those wondering about the supposed patch release in February, DICE explained in their new blog that they wanted to fill it with even more content than originally planned. As a result, the deadline was pushed back and they are "aiming to get the update out this spring".

DICE has released a list of confirmed fixes and tweaks for the upcoming BF3 patch. This is NOT a complete list and is subject to change before it is actually released.

Here is a quick overview of some of the major changes:

-Players should no longer take fall damage from short falls.
-Players now get up from Prone slightly faster, allowing better odds of getting away from a grenade or threat when prone.
-Switching from primary weapons to side arms and back now takes less time.
-Unguided tank rounds and RPGs will now instantly destroy Jets, Attack Helicopters, and Scout Helicopters.
-Slightly reduced the repair speed of the repair tool.
-Increased the damage of the Javelin and Air to Ground missiles against laser designated targets.
-Fixed several bugs with air vehicles colliding with objects at high speeds and taking no damage.
-Disabled vehicles now have an increased reverse speed to help escape to cover after being disabled.
-Added Horns to all Jeeps.
-Semiautomatic and automatic shotguns firing FRAG rounds now do slightly less splash damage.
-Fixed the Rate of Fire when the USAS and MK3A1 are equipped with FRAG rounds. All other shotguns correctly had a reduced rate of fire with frags, except the USAS and MK3A1.
-The L96 Straight Pull bolt now functions properly.
-The MAV will now be destroyed when running into a soldier or vehicle at high speed. It is still possible to strategically sacrifice your MAV on a soldier; it will be destroyed in the process.

For a complete list, see the Battlelog news post by zh1nt0 HERE.

Almost all the weapon attachments will be tweaked for balance as well as weapon accuracy, maximum damage and minimum damage. Detailed numbers can be found HERE.

Fixes for two reproducible client crashes:
Operation Firestorm- Conquest Large – Fixed a client crash when users spawn in certain vehicles.

Canals - Rush – Fixed a client crash at the 2nd set of mcoms if the player drives a vehicle into the vicinity of the exploding rocket battery.

AMD Radeon 7xxx series performance improvements

Please note that this is NOT the "big patch" that everyone has been anticipating for February. A larger patch should be released or at least announced at some point in the next couple weeks.

We would also like to inform the community that we have several ongoing developments with regards to balance and gameplay, performance, stability and the overall feature set that will be announced in the coming weeks.

BF3 DLC Rumor

Feb 2, 2012

During a discussion of Q3 2012 earnings, Electronic Arts' VP of investor relations Peter C. Ausnit stated, "...you’re going to hear some announcements from us on Battlefield actually as early as next week in an event we’ve got in New York."

From the same discussion: "...we've got plans for all of our major franchises to turn them into more of as we're seeing with FIFA and with Battlefield more as games for service that have constant flow of downloadable content."

Although nothing has been confirmed yet by EA, rumors of an American map pack are flying around Battlefield/gaming sites as well as Twitter.

Stay tuned!
